BIO
Dr. Kyle Norris is Associate Professor of Music at Williston State College in Williston, ND. His responsibilities include applied lessons, directing instrumental and vocal ensembles, and teaching Fundamentals of Music, Music Appreciation, and Roots of American Popular Music. Norris previously served as Interim Director of Bands and Brass Studies at Dickinson State University in Dickinson, ND.
Norris received his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance from North Dakota State University in 2012. In addition, he holds a Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from Ohio University and prior to that received a Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance at the Indiana University Jacob's School of Music.
In addition to his responsibilities at Williston State College, Dr. Norris maintains an active schedule performing and adjudicating. Recent performances include appearances with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, Minot Symphony Orchestra, Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra, Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra, Fargo/Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, and the Fargo/Moorhead Opera. Norris has also performed with numerous orchestras throughout the United States including the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, Bloomington Pops, River City Symphony, and the Ohio Valley Symphony.
As a commercial performer Dr. Norris has performed with the Jazz Arts Group of Fargo/Moorhead, Allen Carter Big Band, Everett Longstreth Orchestra, FM Kicks Band, and with artist including Wayne Bergeron, Doc Severinsen, and The Temptations. During the summer, Dr. Norris serves as a member of the artist-teaching faculty at the International Music Camp.
Norris's teachers include John Rommel, William Adam, Jeremy Brekke, John Schlabach, Dominic Spera, and Vicki Hastings.
